UKCA Certification (BS EN 1090-1 0513-CPR-19339)

Formerly ‘CE Marking’ (originally Conformité Européenne), before the UK left the European Union, the Company is formally accredited to the rigorous requirements of UKCA marking for structural steel. We are audited annually to demonstrate compliance with the appropriate manufacturing standards for product and service processing.

It has been a legal requirement that all structural steel fabrications are UKCA marked in accordance with the Construction Products Regulation (CPR) since 2014. This affects every construction project, from a simple domestic house extension to the building of power stations! A number of small to medium-sized fabrication companies have chosen not to invest their time and money into gaining the certification, which means that it is illegal for them to supply & manufacture fabricated structural steelwork.

JOHN W. LAYCOCK Ltd. has been audited by the notified body Alcumus ISOQAR and is proud to be fully compliant with UKCA Marking requirements to BS EN 1090-1, and can supply and manufacture structural steel fabrications up to and including Execution Class 2. Steelwork has been divided into four categories for certification, and a steelwork contractor may not produce steel in a higher category than it is certified.

The categories are:

  • Execution Class 1 – Farm Buildings
  • Execution Class 2 – Buildings
  • Execution Class 3 – Bridges
  • Execution Class 4 – Special structures (e.g. Power Stations)

Under our UKCA certification we can manufacture structural steel structures up to and including Execution Class 2.

For all our steelwork projects, we will provide the UKCA Mark embedded within our Declaration of Performance upon delivery or collection of your goods and have available the following documentation to satisfy compliance with the CPR:

  1. UKCA Certificate for Factory Production Control (FPC)
  2. Declaration of Performance (DoP)

The UKCA Mark, alongside our existing production capabilities, contribute to us achieving the quality and flexibility that delivers projects on time and to the required high standard. By complying with the standard, JOHN W. LAYCOCK Ltd. can ensure that clients and contractors are given confidence throughout the supply chain – from the manufacture of steel sections to fabrication by qualified welders.

In January 2021, the CE Mark was replaced with the UKCA (UK Conformity Assessed) marking. Our partners at Alcumus ISOQAR have transitioned from being a Notified Body to an Approved Body and our certification has likewise transitioned across. There has been no change to the scope of our certification.
